Falling into Sioux Falls

Waking up early on the 8th, I headed out to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I crossed the Mississippi.
Crossing the Mississippi.

The Sioux Falls that gave the town its name.  Yes, that is the Big Sioux River.

My host for the evening: He's been friends with my dad for twenty years, so I basically grew up knowing him.  He and his wonderful wife made me dinner, showed me around town, and gave me a place to crash. And pancakes and bacon to fuel me for the drive across most of the rest of the state!

This is at the Veterans' Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.  This statue was commissioned by a family who lost their son in Afghanistan. It was a really touching story.

Next stop: The Black Hills in western South Dakota.
